ESTABLISHMENT OF DEMONSTRATION PLOTS FOR WASTELAND DEVELOPMENT

Wasteland Development is an important thrust area of rural development schemes in India . The BVG Trust is undertaking research and development projects to convert wastelands in and around Mannargudi into fertile lands by adopting suitable organic farming techniques. A sample plot of size 10 acres is being adopted by the trust and used for demonstrating various wasteland development methods. At present Casuarina sp., Jatropha curcas, Mangifera indica,cv Terminalia arjuna  and Cocos nucifera are being successfully grown in this sample plot.  This is used to demonstrate the farmers of the local area in modern agricultural practices.
